Ava and her wealthy husband Robert reside in a mansion with their 12 year old daughter June and stepsonGene, who rent an apartment over the garage. Ava seems to be living the dream life but she hasn't had it easy. Her stepson used marijuana in their guest home while her daughter, who just had cancer treatment, was recovering. Her ideal existence, however, was disrupted one night when she was attacked in her house as a result of a break-in. Ava's kid is left battling for her life in the hospital due to the violent burglary.

However, she would come to realize that the attack wasn’t random. To identify the perpetrators, she probes into the life of her family. Everyone in the family, even Ava, seemed to have been hiding something. But she’s a fighter and won’t let go until she finds out exactly who was responsible for the break-in and why. Could her husband, who recently took out a new insurance policy, had been behind it, and a plot gone wrong to kill Ava for the insurance? The lead detective on the case happens to be a high school fling of hers named Nate, and Ava feels both comfort and uneasiness at being around him again.

The suspenseful twist and turns in “In Her Eyes” by Sarah Alderson will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. It rarely gives you room to breathe! It had everything one would expect from a psychological thriller - a great plot, well-drawn characters and terrific pacing. Highly recommended!

After leaving her job, Jess is broke and alone, and needs a fresh start so she asked her half-brother, Ben if she could crash with him at his apartment in Paris. Except when she arrives, she finds out that Ben is nowhere to be found in the apartment. Jess also realizes that the other residents at the building are not fond of her being there. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it’s starting to look like she has to dig deeper into Ben’s disappearance, although the neighbours are not answering her questions. Jess is determined to find out the truth and won’t give up no matter what.

I highly recommend this novel to those who like mysterious situations with many secrets to unravel, great characters, creepy and fantastic atmosphere! Everyone’s a neighbor. Everyone’s a suspect. And everyone knows something they’re not telling.

Anna was driving back from a company event, when she is involved in a car crash which kills her 2 colleagues and paralyzes another.  Facing extreme guilt for the blood in her hands, Anna was plagued with nightmares, paranoia and insomnia. She decided to move away and land a job in a small hotel on the Scottish island of Rum. On one fateful day, the weather turns bad, and she has seven guests in the hotel. They are cut off from the rest of the world because there is no phone signal or WiFi connection, and the only way out, which is over a local river, is flooded.

Things start happening that shouldn't, like guests' belongings going missing and creepy messages appearing in the condensation on windows. Someone appears to be after Anna, and in the claustrophobic environment of a closed-off hotel with a slew of guests she doesn't know, her paranoia kicks in and she starts to wonder if her past mistakes are creeping up on her.

The House of Eve follows two young black women in the 1950s, where racial prejudice is rife during this time. Ruby was living with her aunt after she was kicked out of the apartment by her own mother, Inez. She got accepted in the program “We Rise” which granted full scholarships for four years of college as she was very smart and aspired to become an optometrist. Then one day, Ruby met Shimmy who was white and Jewish, and they fell in love. This was extremely wrong as it was not considered proper for whites to be friends with Blacks in the 1950s. Ruby discovered she was pregnant with Shimmy’s child.

Eleanor on the other hand, who was from Ohio,  went to an all black college in Washington, D.C. Because her family was not a well known and established family with a great amount of money, she had to work at the University’s library. There she met William, who belonged to a wealthy black family in Washington D.C. Despite William’s mother’s misgivings, both continued to see each other and fell in love. Then, Eleanor got pregnant and even though William’s mother was not happy about it, the wedding of Eleanor and William took place as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Eleanor had a miscarriage. When Eleanor was pregnant for the second time, she had a miscarriage again.

This book was told through the voices of two distinctly unrelated black women at completely different times in their lives but some of their experiences were similar that knotted their lives together. Both women were forced to be strong with the little choices that they had during that time. They were shaped by the difficult decisions that they were forced to make throughout their lives.
